ABOUT
Jude Rees is a dynamic, genre-defying oboist and multi-instrumentalist with extensive experience in early music, classical, folk, contemporary classical and soundtracks.
As an ensemble musician, Jude has collaborated with some of the luminaries of the British folk scene and has guested on numerous albums and tours, working with artists such as Will Pound, Pilgrims' Way, Piva, GreenMatthews, Jim Moray, Isambarde, Tom Kitching and Dave Swarbrick. Jude plays regularly for film, theatre and broadcast media. Some of her credits include the Royal Shakespeare Company, BBC television and radio, Sky Arts, Netflix, Warner Brothers, New Line Cinema, Commonwealth Games, City of Culture and the Radio2 Folk Awards at the Royal Albert Hall.
Recently, Jude has embarked on an experimental solo show that bridges two of her major musical passions occupying different ends of the chronological spectrum. In this project, she fuses ancient sounds and instruments with analogue circuits to create a unique audio repository. By combining ancient polyphony with her own compositions and improvisations, Jude can craft a rich soundscape featuring vocals, shawms, English border bagpipes, crumhorns, hurdy gurdy, recorders and synthesisers with live looping and a generous dose of drone.
Additionally, Jude teaches woodwind and piano to people of all ages and enjoys creating and conducting workshops for festivals, schools and diverse art spaces.
